Born from Our Family, Made for Yours

Teddy started with our own kids.

When they were ready to move out of their cots and into their first proper beds, we went looking for a mattress and bed frame we felt completely comfortable with them sleeping on.

We struggled to find one.

Most mattresses and beds were designed for adults, not for the specific needs of growing children. And many of the products made specifically for kids simply didn’t meet the standards we were looking for when it came to quality, materials, comfort and durability.

For us, that wasn’t good enough.

We have always believed that our kids are worth the very best. They are the most important people in our lives, and when it came to something as important as where they sleep every night, we didn’t want to compromise.

So we decided to create what we couldn’t find.

Drawing on more than 20 years of experience in the mattress industry, four generations of mattress-making knowledge and an extensive network of trusted suppliers, we set out to design kids mattresses and kids bed frames that we would genuinely feel happy putting our own children to sleep on every night.

That simple idea became Teddy.

Generations of Experience, Made for the Next Generation

Teddy may be a young New Zealand brand, but mattress making has been part of our family for generations.

Our founder has more than 20 years of personal experience in the mattress industry and comes from four generations of mattress makers. Before moving with his family to beautiful Aotearoa, he helped build some of South Africa’s largest bedding brands.

That experience gave us the knowledge, relationships and understanding to do things differently.

Teddy was born from an idea in 2021 and officially launched in March 2022 with a mission to create better sleep products for children and families.

We combine traditional mattress-making craftsmanship with modern materials, thoughtful design and ongoing innovation to create kids mattresses, single mattresses, king single mattresses and kids bed frames that are made to support children as they grow.

If it’s not good enough for our own kids to sleep on, we won’t sell it to yours.

And our toughest quality control officers? Our own kids.

Every mattress and bed we create is designed with the same care, comfort and quality we expect for our own family, because that’s exactly where Teddy began.

Our promise to sustainable dreamers

When we sleep, our deepest desires surface in the form of our wildest dreams of what tomorrow holds. Teddy mattresses are made for all dreamers – big and small. Those who also hope for a better tomorrow, by making more responsible choices today.

We continuously work towards having each partner in the teddy supply chain being ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) rated. All our materials are either OEKO-TEX® 100 certified, CertiPUR-US Program and Eco-friendly REACH approved. We donate our time, services, and a percentage of our profits to Trees that Count in New Zealand to help reverse the tide. We know that our business activity – from sourcing timber to spring – creates pollution as a by-product. 

So, we work steadily to reduce those harms, using recycled plastic from the oceans, up-cycled steel and ethically-sourced timber.

While this may seem like a drop in the ocean, being sustainable starts with taking small steps towards a bigger picture.

We at teddy will continue to improve at every step of our process as we strive towards becoming New Zealand's most sustainable mattress company.

Where are teddy products made and are they certified?

All teddy products are manufactured in China through a trusted network of accredited suppliers we’ve carefully built and audited over the past 20 years. 

We only work with vetted, high-grade supply partners to ensure consistent quality.

All of our Materials have been Independently Tested and Certified. 

What Do These Mattress Certifications Mean?

REACH relates to the regulation and assessment of chemical substances, including substances identified as being of very high concern (SVHC).

CertiPUR-US is a certification programme specifically relating to flexible polyurethane foam used in products such as mattresses.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 relates to textiles that have been tested against requirements for harmful substances.

Together, these standards help provide greater transparency around the materials used inside and around your child’s mattress.
